Head Coach Richard Carrillo is a 1991 graduate of Royal High School where he lettered in football and wrestling. He has a BA in English from Cal Poly, SLO and a Teaching Credential from Cal Lutheran, where he is currently completing a Masters Degree.

Coach Carrillo began his coaching career his senior year in high school as part of his responsibilities as team captain. He coached at Sinaloa Jr. High from 1991-1994 where he was head coach for two years.

In 2000 Carrillo returned to coaching when he began teaching at Chatsworth High. In his four years there he coached 12 state qualifiers and numerous section place winners. In 2004 CHS won its first CIF title in 30 years.

Coach Carrillo returned to Royal in 2004 as an assistant when they won their first CIF Championship. In 2005 he became head coach and Royal again won CIF becoming the first wrestling program in Ventura County to repeat as CIF Champions.

Coach Carrillo enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons. He also likes to play on his computer and play racquetball. He cherishes time to write when he gets the chance.

Coach Carrillo has been married to his high school sweetheart Heather (Royal '91) since 1997. They have three sons, Aidan age 8, and Gabriel age 6, and Mason age 3. Coach Carrillo aspires to make Royal Wrestling better with each passing year. He plans to win Royal's first State Championship in Wrestling sometime later this decade...or next.
